About

The Academy of Engineering and Green Technology (AEGT) is one of three schools located within Hartford Public High School, one of the oldest high schools in the country. The school was founded as Thomas Hooker's Latin school in 1638. By the 18th century it was known as the Hartford Grammar School, and taught Greek and Latin, subjects necessary for young men planning to enter college and prepare for the ministry. English subjects were added in 1847 and the name was changed to Hartford Public High School. It has been nicknamed "HPHS," "Hartford High," "Hartford Public," and "The Pub.”  Modern HPHS has been broken into three separate high schools, including AEGT.

The Academy of Engineering and Green Technology is a public high school for 400 Hartford students in grades 9 through 12. The Academy provides an exemplary high school education that prepares students for college and careers. In addition to their academic classes, students also study engineering, CAD, desktop publishing, environmental science, computer refurbishing, app development, manufacturing, and robotics.

The Academy is a member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a national network of over 500 career-themed high schools with a 30-year track record of successfully preparing high school students for college and careers. Following the NAF model, the Academy has an engineering-focused curriculum, paid internships for students, and a business-led advisory board whose members volunteer in classrooms, provide work-based learning experiences for students, act as mentors, and support the school’s principal and teachers.

How students feel about AEGT...

“There are lots of opportunities here. The engineering classes are awesome and I get to do a lot.”

- AEGT Junior

"“I like AEGT because there are more hands-on projects. We built two robots from scratch. It’s fun because I like to build things.”

- AEGT Senior

“This is a school with many opportunities. The school opens many doors. There are lots of contacts with business people outside and that helps with getting paid internships.”
